For the most part, May sales were extremely positive — the GX was able to shake off any short-term effects of April’s recall and posted a sales gain of 111.5%, and the GS saw a significant boost after months of steady declines. All other models continued on the same upward slope that we saw the month before, with the exception of the LX and its 31.4% drop — most likely due to the introduction of the new GX.

Canada

Lexus sales in Canada dropped 10.6% compared to May of last year –still, GX 460 sales jumped 80%, and the RX 450h is drawing heavy interest with 61.1% increase.

Japan

There were 1,889 Lexus sales in Japan this month, up 4.1% over last year.

The GS series got a huge lift due to leasing specials focused on the New York and Los Angeles Markets. The lease price dropped about $100 per month from last year due to higher residuals and lower rates. The LX570 #'s aren't good ONLY because the factory has cut production WAY down. If you order a LX570 TODAY, it may take you 3-5 months to get one. Dealers are backed up on orders/reservations. If the factory produced MORE LX's, the sales #'s would be higher. Same with the LS460's to a lesser degree.

@lexusjoe: Even so, I think Lexus should move the LX a bit more upscale inside, out, and internally too. One major improvement would be to make those rear seats fold flat into the floor; the current ones aren't all that comfortable, so they might as well just use leather-covered spandex for cushion and if necessary, lift the rear floor up a bit. I think it should be a no-biggy to upgrade the materials; the some buttons alone feel a bit cheap when compared to GX's and RX's.

@WorldofLuxury: I agree they can utilize the improvements "onto" the LX570's, but even if you still want a LX badly, there aren't any around. I was just commenting on the -9% drop in YTD sales from 2009. LEXUS would show a INCREASE in sales if there were more available to be bought. Most northeast Lexus dealers have long waiting lists for LX570's and LS460's. The factory reps have made it clear it is a long process to "up" production. It can take more than 6 months so by the time they "up" production, a new model year will be ready. They have underestimated the demand for top luxury models in the major cities (like NYC, LA, SanFran, etc).
