Mystery Lexus LFA Prototype Video

New video footage has surfaced of the mysterious Lexus LFA prototype which was captured by spy photographers last week:

Upon viewing the vehicle in motion on the streets of Southern California, more questions arise: is the quiet sound indicative of the media speculation that this is a plug-in hybrid prototype?  Are the aft-mounted radiators from the production LFA removed, indicating that this is a possible test mule for a vehicle other than the LFA? A second video is available after the jump.

  1. wow

    welcome 3rd Generation SC

  2. the bid is open

who says SC and who says SUPRA

my view is both it is the GRMN 3.3l—>400hp as base SC engine

and may be also the NG-(LS/GS/IS/SC/MARK-X/CROWN/MAJESTA/SUPRA) Chassis

  3. nice
Finally something that isn’t ultra-expensive or affordable.

    cool pic

    the photo link doesn’t work

  6. I don’t think it’s anything different than an LFA. In another video the same car was seen and it had the same exhaust note as the regular LFA. What I think is this is just a test vehicle, regardless of the missing radiators. It could be running a bigger muffler to suppress the sound, or could be testing it’s ‘automatic’ setting in it’s transmission for street use.

  7. I think it might be just another LFA being tested and altered a little, like TF109B said. If not, I could only think of a hybrid LFA or next-generation SC (which looks too close to the LFA).

  8. I doubt this a SC or Supra prototype. If Toyota really wants to sell all their LFAs over $300+k, they should not be releasing these SC or Supra prototypes to the public. If so, people would be willing to wait a year or so later to get the much affordable SC or Supra.

They should be using the LFA body to just get the inner workings of the new car.

  10. back in 2005, I was at a meet at TEAM LEXUS headquarters in Baltimore, MD….they had a test mule of the new IS350, and it looked like this:

it would not surprise me if they are using this platform to test new SC/SUPRA technology…

  11. The only thing is that the LFA is already sold out. There’s more than double of the LFA’s ready to purchase it. So it wouldn’t matter if they did sell a new SC based off the LFA. But i get the point. Even if the LFA is sold out, it might be a little off to have an LFA look alike for a cheaper price. Even if it was ‘only’ an SC or a Supra.

  12. @TF109B: The new SC simply has to be outright beautiful, muscular, sleek, and sexy! No weird complications nor blandness allowed! Oh… and must be one-of-a-kind while not being weird. aha

  13. I still think an LFA roadster would’ve been great.
