The 460 looks great in those pictures & for once we can read an article that doesn’t deride the LS for not being sporty, instead praising it’s superlative ride/refinement qualities which the Germans’ can’t seem to match.
But note the interior which doesn’t have leather trimmed door armrests. Isn’t this feature standard in every other Lexus, so why is it optional in the LS ? (this was an issue with the LS430 also)
@Krew : Thanks
@LEXUSBOY: Good eye
@Lexus: Cheapa$$
@WorldofLuxury: I noticed this same flaw first in the LS430 & if you wanted leather on the door armrests, you had to pay extra for the Ultra Luxury Package which added leather on the lower dash & center console as well. In the Middle East market, it wasn’t available in the LS430 at all & the armrests were quite hard without the leather. Whereas the 2nd gen LS400 had it as standard fitment along with gathered leather on the doors (which I sorely miss). Don’t understand Lexus’ logic behind this sort of cost cutting.
I believe every other Lexus today including the manual IS250 has it as standard fitmant.
@LEXUSBOY: sigh… business as usual. Lexus has been raising the prices on its vehicles for years, and to keep the MSRP down, they took out the leather in the base price. I bet a lot of the LS vehicles on US dealer lots have the leather on the door armrest. Why would they go through the trouble of explaining L-finesse’s leveled armrests but keep out the uniformity of the materials used?
I’ve never actually in person seen an LS460 without the leather armrests, plus it’s a standard fitment in the UAE market even @ base price. But I’ve seen three press cars without it (this awd being the 3rd) & that too only in images. I think it would’ve been better to delete the leather on the center console sides rather than the armrests which is constantly used while cruising & pulling the doors shut.
@Krew : Autospies didn’t get 5.4 seconds from the LS, instead it was a journo from BusinessWeek .
How about… maintaining leather in those two positions forever?
@WorldofLuxury: Yeah, every Lexus should have that as a standard feature.
