2010 Lexus GS 450h Changes

Like the Lexus LS hybrid, the 2010 GS 450h will also be receiving a mild refresh, including a new grille, new chrome-circled tail lights and new wheels:

This was the only good shot I could find of the new tail lights:

As far as I can decipher from the Lexus Japan website, where these photos were posted, there are some possible interior changes, including a HDD-based navigation system replacing the current DVD and very nice interior material/color combinations:

Of course, it’s impossible to say what options will make the trip to North America, but I’m hoping these Hybrid decals stays in Japan:

(Also, it’s not clear which of these changes, if any, will be applied to GS 350/460. One thing’s for sure, the grille is sure to be hybrid-only.)

Cool
Not very good, but I’m surprised that Lexus bothered. The original change in the grille during the last facelift was also quite a surprise, coming from Lexus and all.
Anyways, the change to HDD-based navigation system is great. DVD-based GPS is so slow. (I think the Nav in my LS from 1998 is also HDD-based, but things have changed over the decade.)
I don’t like the exterior changes at all…I prefer the design of the 07 (which I own). The changes Lexus is making to the GS is bordering on “pimp my ride” sort of mods. Just let the 3rd gen GS die gracefully and focus on the 4th gen!
OH GOD. Is Lexus high?!? Whats with the stupid HS grille on all the hybrids?!?!? Their crazy. IDC how high quality the grille is. It’s just not right! Wait till they put it on the RXh in two days. Let me just name the past few lexuses designed badly in ORDER:
RX line, IS C, HS, ES Facelift, LS line facelift mostly the Hybrid, and THIS.
RX- seeing the LFX h and all that anticipation, a pretty big letdown. I still like it though.
IS C- Even if Lexus was rushing this they should have noticed the huge butt in the back and fixed it.
HS- Lexus just didn’t feel like making it pretty. No passion AT ALL! STUPID GRILLE!!!!
ES- WAS an art piece before the facelift, but now ruined. Lexus didn’t care. out of place fog lamps
LSh- OMG, ITS EXTREMELY SAD!! Was most beautiful car in the world, now, not gonna happen. STUPID GRILLE! weird fog lamps.
GSh- lik what World of LUX said WHY EVEN BOTH!!! It has been already facelifted not again! why the GRILLE?!?!
WITH these designs my hope for the LFA to look good is small.
One more bad move and I’ll leave LEXUS.
There isn’t any changes immediately visible in the taillamps and the chrome grille doesn’t fit in with the rest of the car.
Lexus is pretty much commiting suicide with these redesigns. It’s as if the designers want to see the luxury brand we all used to look up to, die a horrible death.
I hope the LF-A looks great (though I think that ship is about to sail).
@Ivan
Agreed. Lexus designers aren’t really paying attention to redesigns are they? To me, I seems that they are just randomly adding small slits and chrome bits here and there.
Over-react much? Most of these styling details are relatively minor, and few will notice the difference unless they look closely. Most of the reviewer reaction is that it’s too subtle.
RX - looks pretty good IMO
IS C - huge butt but more trunk space, etc. It is not the best looker, but it gets the job done.
HS - looks weird like the original IS, ES, etc. they’ll redo it the next gen
ES - facelift is very, very minor and few will notice the changes IMO
LSh/GSh - new grill which works on the GSh, less so on the LSh.
I do agree that a lot of the changes seem to be ‘tweak a little’ just for the sake of it, but I think the changes for the IS, ES, LS in general are pretty good.
The wheels seem to be like the ones on the IS. And the grille needs to be seen in person. I liked the first redesign. Wait.. it’s the second redesign already? I didn’t know they could do more than one.
I liked the 3GS refresh for 08 and 09. I don’t think it was bad but people complained about the grille that was slightly bigger and I don’t see what the fuss was about.
I’d have to see how this GSh would like in person. Pictures are kinda small unfortunately. This grille actually kinda fits better than the new grille for the LSh. But yes, I do think the engineers for Lexus are getting a little crazy… I think the designs for 2001-2005ish Lexuses where it was at, even though they may be considered dated designs today.
I really like the new grille on the GSh and the tail lights look like they will be really cool. I always thought the GSh needed something to make it stand out that it was the flagship GS.
liking the IS wheels. and thats pretty much it…why bother touching the GS? Eddie, im with you, a few more bad moves and…im afraid Lexus will be a thing of the past for me…
Love it. Looks very nice.
Love the wheels.
It haven’t changed much from the current design…why are some of you having a heart attack?
DUDE.
Stop overreacting….
Stop sayin how ugly the cars are before you see them..jesus.
I agree Lexus should have sent a brand new GS but this looks good…it really does not look bad at all.
You want something to complain about?
Nothing looks worse then the Acura TL so please rethink when you call this ugly.
ugly is still ugly lol
And the TL is actually not that bad; it’s one of those “good idea, bad results”.
...the tl is the worst looking thing on wheels ive ever seen…and ive seen ugly things on wheels…it looks like batman had a kid with a deformed troll and the kid was set on fire, melted, and then frozen that way…its terrible…
OMG!!!
YOU GUYS HAVE TO SEE THIS!
http://gazoo.com/Movie/MovieDetail.aspx?MovieID=222
Click that button below the picture of the white HS to watch the video and actually see the interior more clearly!
The interior looks pretty rich! It’s not that plasticy… those press pictures…ugh
The floating center console no longer seems like the designers were out of ideas. The glovebox no longer seems to have a weird design. The area where the cupholders and iPod adapters are no longer seem loose and cheap!
Two points to note:
- My friend complains that the Remote Touch needs some getting used to, and he found that the iDrive was much more convenient once he learned how to navigate through the menus.
- I LOVE HOW THE JAPANESE SIMPLY REITERATE EVERY ENGLISH WORD THEY DON’T HAVE IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE - EVEN THE COMPUTER’S MOUSE!
Btw, this website is GAZOO.com - GAZOO.com/racing is… I don’t know how to put it into words. Apparently, it’s Akio’s racing team?
And that HS ALSO SEEMS TO BE QUITE A LOOKER IN ALL THE VIDEOS! Those photographers Lexus hires need to be fired!
one last note… lol
Their driving on the “wrong side” of the road kinda gives me an awkward feeling.
Yo thanks.
looks like those decals are stickers they give with the car…waster of money dont know why you would apply them,..the taillights actually look better because they’re more sharp and clear.
sadly no problem haha
it looks like [the front] a zombie suffering from too much flash photography in white…but so nice in black. as all Lexus are.
Your friend must be a unique techie or something, every single review from Autoblog to Motor Trend has stated that Remote Touch is the easiest to use, almost no learning curve. Having tried it, I agree.
I see.
I’m afraid I’m unable to give an honest opinion. I have a BMW 7 from when the iDrive first came out, and I never really understood all the fuss. Since I’m a little too busy, I don’t have the time to actually test the Remote Touch out while driving or at a red light.
i just noticed that the little “hybrid” word on the side panels light up blue now. i saw it in the picture of the black GS’s taillights
I gotta say… the options Lexus is providing for its cars recently aren’t bad. That “Hybrid” decal on the front door isn’t that bad. I actually prefer it to the ones on the strip of chrome on the rear doors because the blue part is a little tacky… looks like someone just rubbed blue acrylic over it.
For the LFA, if Lexus needs help with the interior, they gotta look at Ferrari’s interiors, especially the new 458 Italia. The cockpit is very driver-focused; the materials are of high-quality; and there are slabs of leather and beautiful stitching all over the place!
The LFA be the same but better:
- beautiful brushed-aluminum (real aluminum)
- thick semi-aniline leather with double stitching everywhere
- shiny carbon fiber to add contrast
- no shared parts with the new RX (at least make the air vents and Remote Touch with higher-quality materials)
This facelift looks quite good actually, though it doesn’t make much sense to give the GS a second makeover. Maybe they wanted to prop up flagging sales. The new grille is infinitely better than that plastic board thing fitted to the LSh. Why couldn’t they have given the LSh a grille similar to this new GSh ?
Looks like the center air intake is also different from the current car. Thankfully this is acceptable compared to the other recent redesigns from Lexus. Wonder if there are any detail changes to the interior.
PS: Krew seems to have posted the same interior image twice.
Some of your points are valid, Eddie. Here’s what I think…
)RX - Hate the front end & interior design but lots of kit.
)IS C - Good design overall & I somehow like the rear design especially the tail-lights. Should have been a coupe though.
)HS - Really dislike this car, it devalues the Lexus brand & doesn’t belong in the same showroom as cars like the LS & GS. A 4-cylinder Lexus that looks like an 80’s econo-box.
)ES - The facelift looks like they simply ran out of ideas. If they couldn’t improve the air dam & fog lamps of the current car, then they should’ve left it as such & just added functional upgrades.
)LSh - The grille & foglamps look seriously out of place in a $100K plus luxury sedan. They ruined what was IMO a perfect front end design. This was the car that won the World’s Most Beautiful Automobile award in 2007, but not any more.
)GSh - This redesign is far more palatable than the other models.
My expectations for the LF-A have diminished after seeing the recent Lexus designs. Its likely to be an anti-climax at least styling wise. Also don’t think the LF-A will get Remote Touch as it won’t be of much use in a supercar.
Can you think of any supercar that has a controller like i-Drive or Comand ?
lol
The concept cars seemed to “imply” that the production car will get the Remote Touch.
RE: the gazoo video.
The terracotta combo for the HS is very interesting… I wonder if the US will get this option…?... the black and white interior looked fantastic too.
Sorry, this was off subject from the GS post… I like the GSh grille much better than the LSh… I like the gradation from a thick horizontal band of chrome, down to a thin sliver… I hope they fit in another next-gen revision a couple days later for the LSh
I gotta say… that Lexus badge still kinda gives me chills whenever I look or even think about it. The L insignia itself has a lot of soul… passion… hope… rule-breaking… life… and definitely accomplishments. A lot of what we see as flaws deserve their spot in Lexus’ history, and I hope Lexus will be back to its original marvel in the near future.
Just think about it. Lexus is kinda responsible for how the automotive world is today. I still agree that nothing has been anywhere on par with the hype built and carried on by the very first LS.
Carspyshots has blown-up pictures of the GSh grille… I think the horizontal chrome strips make the car look wider.
http://www.carspyshots.net/showthread.php?t=14158&page=5
Hey… thanks man. The car certainly does look great. The car looks wider for sure.
Krew,
Anyways here’s the link:
I was surfing the web and found that the 2010 Prado aka GX brochure has leaked! Should be good for an article.
http://www.worldcarfans.com/109081221013/2010-toyota-land-cruiser-prado-aka-lexus-gx-brochure-leaks
Wow, feels like I’m reading a post from a 16 year old person who is looking for a first car.
GAZOO is Toyota’ In-House company(ies) that deals with Toyota’s telematic system along with the Lexus Enform system. They’re also responsible for Nissan, Mitsubishi and I think Suzuki or Mazda in ECT support.
They also have racing divison but it’s not Akio’s racing team. They also have their own inhouse tuning.
I’m also guessing you don’t know anything about the Japanese Language or their culture.
You sound more like a Fanboy than an enthusiast.
BMW iDrive has a very steep learn curve and is very frustrating if you want to access something so simple like AC!!!
I agree with the updated grille on the GS-h. It’s so much better looking than the LS-h new interpertation of Acura’s shield grille. But then again, it’s a small pics.
Lexus doesn’t need help with the interior. They know they made the Supra a Driver-focused and orientated sports car, they should be able to do the same for the LF-A.
if the LFA drives like its hyped up to, nobody would mind getting lost and cruising a little more.
lol…
I don’t know… I couldn’t find GAZOO on Wikipedia like DENSO. And I actually do know a little something about Japan (I better since I live in SoCal and travel to Japan now and then, getting freaked out every time two tour buses traveling in opposite directions race past each other on a narrow mountain road.).
I’m not really sure what’s the difference between a fanboy and an enthusiast, though. All I can say is that I will never own a Merc; my LS and LX will be with me for awhile; my 730Li never had the problems others complained about.
Can you tell me a little something about yourself? Age? Whereabouts? First car? Cars you currently own?
An enthusiast has a passion for a particular item and see the goods and bad of everything. I’m a car enthusiast and have my opinion on what is what. I’m not bias towards one make or one model or one company. I see them as a whole. Where as a fanboy only see one company, one model and one make. Disregarding all others. A Fanboy will only see the good in that company and reading from your other post that’s apparently all you do.
As far as your question goes:
Age is irrelevant. Location is irrelevant. I’ve been in the automotive field for about 10 years, worked at an Automotive Parts Retailer, highly sought after by many different automotive company for employment including Toyota/Lexus, MB, BMW, Ford, Honda, Hyundai and now work at Carmax as manager.
First car: The Lexus before Lexus was created, the Toyota Cressida. Then I own a Camry, corolla, S60, Mazda 3, a Windstar.
Worked on a numerous vehicles including the IS, SC, GS, ES, Supra, Celica, Maxima, 240SX, RX7, 4Runners, Tundra, Civics, Accords, Altima, Sentra, all the cars listed above pretty much the list goes on. I specialize more in imports.
So since you know more about me and my vast knowledge in the automotive industry, how bout you?
To be frank, I’ve completely misjudged you although I didn’t expect anything so, well, serious. I was planning to go on about fanboys, enthusiasts, and biased and then the reality of selfless altruism (kinda got that from watching Friends).
But anyways, I just do business around the Pacific rim and travel quite a bit. My first car I still own - a Lexus LS 400. My LX is the only other car I tell my friends about because, apparently, Lexus fans don’t drive Bimmers, but I have managed to stay true to myself by staying away from Mercs.
The dealer would question anything I touched from under the hood, so I have stopped messing around over there. I’ve been forced to stay away from bikes because I’d always manage to seriously injure myself - even on a tricycle when little, and to control my desire to once again race downhill on two wheels I have absolute control over, I’ve been looking forward to the LFA and its speed ...ooo the sheer thrill of speed.
A brand new Carmax, and a few other nearby dealers, has kinda been in the way of the expansion of Interstate-5, and recently, I’ve kept on finding myself in traffic with Carmax to my right, and empty dealers along a historical road to my left. An In-N-Out nearby is also in the way, but they make good (slightly overpriced) food.
I hope you understood all that. There are parts that might have been a little exaggerated and romanticized… more or less.
