Popular Mechanics Compares the Lexus RX 350 vs. Cadillac SRX
After Motor Trend’s misguided comparison of the Lexus RX 350 and the new Cadillac SRX, I was looking forward to a more honest take on the battling crossovers—and that’s what Popular Mechanics has delivered:
As much as Cadillac may have had its crosshairs set on Lexus, it built a much different car. The design character and driving dynamics clearly favor the sporty side. If, say, you hauled the family to a mountain retreat along some twisty roads, the SRX would be the best crossover. But in the usual day-to-day grind, the RX’s greater refinement and comfort would be awfully hard to ignore. Forced to choose, we’d go with the Lexus.
It isn’t Popular Mechanics choosing the RX over the SRX that makes this a better comparison than Motor Trend’s, it’s the absence of skewed logic. Even in this review, the RX was chosen reluctantly, and only because it makes the most sense. It’s a safe pick, which is what crossover shoppers are looking for (as opposed to how well the vehicle carves corners). It isn’t right or wrong, it’s simply the truth.

most people in this market ignore cadillac completely, so this review isn’t very helpful, but at least they don’t pick the one that’s a better drive over all else logic.
They really liked Remote Touch as well…plus said that “[[the Lexus RX’s]] materials and fit and finish are two notches above the Caddy's.” Objectively, on paper and in real world application, the RX 350 has much more utility and luxury than the RX.

also its weird that PM specs said the RX brakes at a shorter distance. Motor Trend states the SRX had the shorter stopping distance
I would like to see a comparison over the benz’s m-class and newer GLK
People please the RX has such a low quality interior and always has. It looks like a Camery on the inside really. The SRX has leather everywhere and is much more refined. Also the SRX has many trim levels from softer to sporty so which one did they test here? Right you don’t know that is why this is so silly and you have searched for a review to support your feelings.
I’ve been comparing luxury crossovers for a while. Have to say, first look is always important to me and the rounded lines of the RX has always appealed to me. The caddy just looked an angry tank to me. (Ended up with a 2010 RX350 and I’m very happy)
The way I see it, the RX does have a higher quality interior, as well as a little more power, BUT…
I’d buy the Cadi any day. Both the RX and the CRX aren’t exactly what I’d call “sporty” so the HP advantage the RX has is meaningless. Also the interior of the RX is better, but doesn’t “look” as good as the Cadi’s. The Cadi has fake leather everywhere is doesn’t have real leather, so unless your an leather worker or taxidermist your not going ot be able to tell the difference. The RX has higher quality materials but it doesn’t look as sharp as the CRX.
Another reason to by the CRX is because surprisingly Cadi has very good brand image to younger generations. Old people actually hate Cadis, weird right? Its the younger generation who really are attracted to the Cadillac brand, so you are much more likely to score young tail with the Cadi, than the foreign RX. In fact your foreign care will probably turn them off. So unless your a foreigner, an american but not a real american, or attracted to old people, then get the CRX.
