The 1955 Lexus F-100

A 1955 Ford F-100 with the 1UZFE engine

It doesn’t look much like a Lexus, but this restored 1955 Ford F-100 owes a great deal to the LS400. Owners Terry & Terri Altman used the ‘91 Lexus LS400 1UZFE engine, along with its steering column and instrumentation in their restoration.

As for why, here’s a quote from their interview with Custom Classic Trucks:

They remarked that it was the company’s slogan that made a huge impact on their decision to install something other than a Ford or Chevy V-8 under the hood.

“The Passionate Pursuit of Perfection” is what solidified the decision to install the ‘91 Lexus V-8. With its enormous wiring harness and several computers, it was a formidable mechanical challenge in itself. The slogan also describes the considerable effort Terry has invested in the construction of his beautiful black ‘55 F-100 in his attempt to make it modern but not radical.

The result of their hard work is an amazing meld of old & new, with the dependability of a Lexus engine & cachet of an exceptional classic truck. This was a very smart and unique approach to restoration, and is bound to be a vehicle that the Altmans can enjoy driving for years to come.

  1. Now that is something.

    smile

  2. If it’s the “Pursuit of Perfection ” you were looking for, you should have kept the motor a Ford. Putting a Toyota motor in a Ford makes it a Toyota. Do you know what would make this truck look even better? Slap some Toyota emblems on the fenders and put a set of those cool Turcel wheels and hubcaps on it. Now that’s cool…......

  3. muy linda en verdad la mejor

  4. Estamos encantados de poder le gustó!

  5. I sure hope the lic. plate says transvestite cause it may look like a ford but it sure isn’t a ford.

  6. beautiful hotrod.  Not popular because not pure.  Do not forget that Toyota destroyed FoMoCo and stole its motor from Chevy.

  7. The beauty of this thing is only skin deep. A 351 or a 460 with a C6 tranny would make it perfect.

  8. I LOVE THE TRUCK AND AM JUST SO HAPPY THAT IT DOESNT HAVE A DUMBA$$ CHEVY MOTOR IN IT…...... AND YOU NEVER KNOW THEY MIGHT HAVE FOUND A NEW WAY FOR SOMETHING ELSE TO BE DONE.. IT IS A BEAUTIFULE TRUCK AND IM SURE WILL BE FOR A LONG TIME

  9. Ford has never made a 1UZFE nor could anything they make even compare. this engine is considered suitable for aircraft, and it’s twenty year old technology. Putting this engine in this particular vehicle magically makes no longer a piece of shit.

  10. i have that same truck

  11. Very nice truck with an inspired choice of engine, good on you. Some strange comments though.
one of the biggest problems the Hot Rod scene has, especially here in the UK, is that just about every rod has to be the same as the last to be “traditional”.
Hot rodders of the 50’s and 60’s were todays import junkies. If all alloy V8’s and quality turbos were available then, all of todays hot rods would have Toyota engines.

  12. A very good point, Mik.

  13. As for the demise of Ford (US) and Chevy, if they hadn’t spent so many years with their heads up their arses, they might have kept up with global markets.
Be different, be unique. If you want to fit in with everybody else, buy a standard Focus and drive around a WallMart car park.
I’m a Ford freak, into XR4i’s (Murker) with Cosworth V6 engines but that’ll be replaced with a supercharged Lexus 4.0. Why???, cos in standard form, it’ll take over 450BHP all day long. Modded it’ll take upto 1000BHP. Not bullsh##ing, it has been done, check out Lexextreme.com.

The best cars in the world, especially rod’s, have been created by thinking outside of the box.

  14. Woah, sounds like you have some big plans—good luck and be sure to let us know how it goes!

  15. The die hard domestic guys hate what you’ve done, but you know what. Screw’em. You’ve got a sweet ride. I don’t have a truck… yet, but I do have a nissan 240sx and I went the reverse route putting a LS1 motor in it from my buddies trans am. No matter how you look at it it’s something new and different and people are always going to criticise. Good job on building an awesome truck!

  16. Very nice truck and a better choice for an engine than another sb chev i have a 55 but im building a 612 ci stroker which will swallow buckets of nitrous and produce over 1000 horsepower however the street driving will be somewhat limited with this package but its my choice and thats what its all about is personal choices that make a rod special, congrats one a beutiful and original truck.
